Cell Bands
Bands below are in MHz
AT&T:
2G (EDGE): Runs on 850 and 1900 (depends on area. Suggest having a phone
that does both. Technology is being phased out.)
3G (UMTS, HSPA): Runs on 850 and 1900 (depends on area. Suggest having a phone
that does both). Sometimes AT&T calls HSPA 4G to confuse the issue.
4G (LTE): Runs on 700. Band is incompatible with Verizon LTE. Will soon also run
on 1700 (AWS).
Verizon:
2G (1xRTT): Runs mostly on 850 and 1900 in some area. Technology will be
phased out eventually, but currently all voice uses 1x.
3G (EV/DO): Runs on 850 and 1900 (mostly on 1900 lately). Most USA-based CDMA
phones have both bands. Some from Japan/Australia do not.
4G (LTE): Runs on 700. Band is incompatible with AT&T LTE. Will soon also run on
1700 (AWS).
T-Mobile:
2G (EDGE): Runs on 1900. Technology will be phased out over the next few
years.
3G (UMTS, HSPA): Runs on 1700 (AWS). Has started adding 1900 coverage primarily
to allow iPhones to operate on 3G. T-Mobile calls this 4G.
4G (LTE): No LTE to date. Will start rolling out on 1700 (AWS) in 2013 starting with Las
Vegas.
Sprint:
2G (1xRTT): Runs on 1900. Some coverage now on 800 (old Nextel frequency -
